Sweden and Finland want citizens to be prepared for war. Should Canada do the same?

RE: CTVNews.ca: Sweden and Finland want citizens to be prepared for war. Should Canada do the same?

Yes.  Authoritarian regimes are increasingly emboldened when it comes to their fantasies of conquest.  Russia, China, North Korea want to start a war, but are cautious because they're weary of starting a fight with the U.S. but since the U.S. seems to be ever more isolationist, not willing to aid their allies, NATO countries are on their own.  Canadians should most definitely prepare for war.  War is coming, we should be ready.

Replaced WordPress with my own weblog

Recently I got rid of the oversized, poorly functional WordPress weblog and created my own.  Which is something I wanted to do from the start.  The whole point of this website is to write the code, the content is secondary.  Over time, the blog will have more interesting posts, and more features.

Why a petrostate is hosting UN climate talks — again

RE: CBC.ca: Why a petrostate is hosting UN climate talks — again

“Russia blocked the selection of European Union countries such as Bulgaria, Slovenia and Moldova, due to E.U. sanctions over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.”

Why on God’s green Earth would russia still have the power to block selections of anything? Russia should be kicked out of the U.N. Security Council and barred from controlling any major U.N. event such as COP. Instead we’ve got a petrostate’s COP team negotiate fossil fuel deals while organizing the conference. This is unacceptable. The COP conferences are a farce. The host government is expected to provide leadership for the negotiations. The U.N. says the president’s role includes “raising ambition” to tackle climate change internationally and developing a vision for the best possible outcome of the meeting. Just like last time, the COP is hosted and lead by a state that has no desire to reduce fossil fuel production and the emissions that come from burning them.

Climate change is real. It is happening right now. It will only get worse. And the cause of climate change is more than one hundred years of burning fossil fuels. It is vital that the citizenry of all ethical nations cry out to their governments and corporations to drastically reduce the production, import/export, and burning of fossil fuels. And if cost is your objection to doing so, continuing business as usual is far more costly, and will only get costlier.
