GTK+ Foundation Classes
Integrated set of C++ classes for developing GTK+ applications on UNIX-like systems such as Linux. The classes are designed to work nicely with the GNU tool chain and take advantage of the standard C++ features provided by the GNU compiler. Currently there are three modules in the GFC development platform, the core object system and utility library (GFC-Core), the user interface library (GFC-UI) and a binding for the GNOME Configuration System (GFC-GConf).

jEdit
A mature, free and open source programmer's text editor with hundreds (counting the time developing plugins) of person-years of development behind it. jEdit beats many expensive development tools for features and ease of use.

NetBeans IDE
Free, open-source Integrated Development Environment (IDE) for software developers. You get all the tools you need to create professional desktop, enterprise, web and mobile applications, in Java, C/C++ and even Ruby. The IDE runs on many platforms including Linux, Mac OS X and Solaris; it is easy to install and use straight out of the box.

XEmacs
XEmacs is a highly customizable code editor and application development system. It is protected under the GNU Public License and related to other versions of Emacs, in particular GNU Emacs. Its emphasis is on modern graphical user interface support and an open software development model, similar to Linux. XEmacs has an active development community numbering in the hundreds, and runs on a plethora of platforms.

XFCE Developer Tools
An easy way to handle the setup and maintaince of a projects build framework. They currently consist of a bunch of M4 macros for commonly used checks and the xdt-autogen script, which examines the projects configure.ac or configure.in file(s) and calls the appropriate autotools in the correct order.

As the name suggests, the XFCE Developer Tools are mainly useful for application developers to maintain their build environment. But users will also be required to install them if they plan to build software straight from CVS or SVN checkouts.
